Valosali Bridge
The architectural railing and aperture of the Valosali bridge, completed at the end of 2021 as a result of the Valosali project, was designed by Sweco Finland Oy, while Ramboll Valostudio implemented the design for the light art. The bridge is located in the Savilahti area, the theme of which in the Circle of Light is ‘science’.
The bridge has programmable lighting on the facade, pillars and skylight window. The warm-toned lighting in the evenings changes to a cool tone at midnight, until it turns off at dawn. The colour of the light in the skylight window in the middle of the bridge changes according to the prevailing wind speed. The colours used are the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s colours for different wind speeds. Special and festive days have their own colour lighting themes programmed and they can be seen in all programmable lights on the bridge (e.g. the colour theme for the Finnish Independence Day is blue-and-white, and for New Year’s, multicolour). Other special lighting days include the anniversary of the foundation of the city of Kuopio, Minna Canth’s Day, May Day, The Day of Light, the spring and autumn equinox and the winter solstice.
